Current shortcomings: At present, the PET workshop relies on a single mixing tank for preparing masterbatches. Some color‑sheet masterbatches require preparation by the Technical Department; prior to mixing, the tank must be cleaned of residual blue pigment, and afterward, it needs to be cleared of any remaining color. This cleaning process is time‑consuming, often taking half a day, and if not done thoroughly, it can adversely affect the color of standard transparent sheets. Moreover, much of the material removed during cleaning ends up being repurposed only for black‑sheet production, resulting in both wasted time and unnecessary raw‑material loss. With an increasing number of color‑sheet varieties requiring masterbatch preparation, coupled with insufficient staffing, the workload has become increasingly heavy. Proposed improvement: Acquire a second mixing tank to complement the existing one, clearly labeling each tank—one designated specifically for preparing blue‑based and OB‑based masterbatches, and the other reserved for color‑sheet masterbatches. This arrangement would eliminate the need to clean the tank used for blue or OB masterbatches, and significantly reduce the frequency of cleaning required for tanks handling color‑sheet masterbatches (especially when dealing with similar, identical, or repeatedly prepared colors). As a result, this measure would save time, conserve materials, and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Deputy General Manager Luo Mingyou commented that Wen Can has always been a modest and steady employee—dedicated to his technical expertise, low-key in demeanor, and able to endure solitude. He urged everyone to emulate Wen Can’s down-to-earth, diligent work ethic. As for rationalization proposals, there are many avenues for improvement; for instance, the recurring issue of black‑film jamming on the production line in Workshop No. 1 is far from the first time it has occurred. Who can take this problem head-on and devise a technical solution? He encouraged all colleagues to think more deeply about the various production and operational challenges facing the company.

The deputy manager of the Culture Department concluded by saying that the rationalization‑proposal program will now be held every two months, which means that everyone needs to think more deeply when submitting suggestions for improving the company’s production and operations. Rationalization proposals must be grounded in reality and genuinely address existing problems. By working together with a practical, down-to-earth approach, we can generate more solutions‑oriented recommendations and steadily enhance the company’s performance.

In January–February 2019, the first prize for rationalization proposals was awarded to Wen Can from the Technical Quality Department for his proposal titled “Purchase a new mixing tank in the PET workshop specifically for preparing color masterbatches.”

The existing shortcomings are as follows: Currently, the PET workshop has only one mixing tank dedicated to preparing color masterbatches. For certain colored sheet grades, the technical department must formulate the masterbatches; prior to formulation, the tank must be cleaned of residual blue material, and after completion, it must be cleaned again to remove any remaining color. This tank‑cleaning process is time‑consuming, often requiring half a day, and if not performed thoroughly, it can adversely affect the color of standard clear sheets. Moreover, many of the flakes generated during tank cleaning can only be used for black‑sheet production, resulting in both labor inefficiency and raw‑material waste. In the future, with an anticipated increase in the number of colored sheet grades requiring custom masterbatch preparation, the department’s limited staffing will significantly intensify the workload.

The specific improvement plan is as follows: Acquire a new mixing tank and, together with the existing one, clearly label them in the workshop—designating one exclusively for formulating blue masterbatch and OB masterbatch, and the other solely for preparing color‑chip masterbatches. This way, the tank used for blue and OB masterbatches will no longer require cleaning between batches, and the tank dedicated to color chips will often avoid cleaning as well, especially when working with similar or identical colors or when recycling the same color chip’s masterbatch. As a result, this approach saves time, reduces material waste, and enhances operational efficiency.
